Welcome!

Past. Present. Future.

I'm Meredith Wood, a technical writer and editor. I have a bachelor's degree in Arts and Technology, and a certificate in Business, Government, and Technical Communications. I've written documents ranging from user guides to recommendation reports to screenplays, and I strive for clarity, accuracy, and continual improvement in my work.

Throughout my educational and workplace experience, I've become accustomed to swapping back and forth between multiple style guides and managing competing deadlines. I utilize my narrative design background to plan and create documents that are customized for the end user.

This site hosts my full technical writing portfolio. I invite you to look through my samples to understand my work and influences!

This slideshow compiles samples that can be read in full within their respective categories: Technical Documents and Miscellaneous Writing Samples. I invite you to sit for a minute and watch it to get a quick overview of the various types of documents that I've created from scratch!

Note: The images will scroll through on a loop automatically, but if you would like to take a closer look at the documents or advance through the images yourself, you can click once on the slideshow to enlarge the current image. Two arrow icons will pop up on the left and right sides of the screen, which you can use to click through the rest of the images manually. On the mobile version, tap the screen a second time to make the arrow icons visible, and press the X in the top right corner to exit the image viewer.

Technical Writing Samples

Depicted below is a full user guide I created with MadCap Flare. All told, this website contains technical writing samples of user guides, step-by-step "how-to" instructions, and a recommendation report. Each entry provides a brief description of the project the document was created for, a thumbnail preview of the document's formatting, and a link to read the document in full.*

Other miscellaneous writing samples are included in their own respective section on this website to demonstrate my experience with formatting several different kinds of documents. Examples of these types of projects include my UTD capstone project, which can be found in the section below.

Capstone Project - Dragon Keeper

Script, Short Animatic, and Concept Booklet

Dragon Keeper is my UTD capstone project, created in tandem with artist, writer, and designer Sarah Streety. The project was supervised by professor Adam Chandler. Dragon Keeper portrays a fun, but moralistic, detective-fantasy story. The story depicts the harshness of ill-minded human judgment, even in a setting where something can appear to be magical and just.

A quiet night at home that should’ve been like any other opens up a world of political schemes and cover-ups when 12-year-old Percy Saton witnesses the kidnapping of her father, the mayor of Woodbry. With the city at stake in the midst of a new election, Percy must continue her father’s research into the long lost Titans, and take care telling friend from foe.

D.K. Animatic

This short animatic covers the first half of the introduction section of the script, complete with sound effects and music. The animatic is not voiced, but there are subtitles to convey dialogue and action description.
